Ecological Landscape Design for Beautiful and Functional Native Gardens

This native landscape design service offered by Mulberry Maps LLC is not the “traditional” landscape design. No invasive species or nonnative species will be recommended. This design expands beyond the “NC and SC Piedmont Native Plant Garden Consultation and Plan” offered by Mulberry Maps LLC.

This landscape design combines on-site ecological observation with advanced mapping and spatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro to create a highly detailed, customized landscape design tailored specifically to your property and built around native species.

This landscape design includes a map of your property with specific locations marked for plant installations. I will also mark these locations onsite with you, if requested, so that you are able to know exactly where my map corresponds to on your property.

🌿 Implementation & Project Scope

The landscape design plan provided through this service is intended to serve as a comprehensive guide for you, the landowner, to implement at your own pace and at your own budget. My role is to evaluate your property, develop a thoughtful ecological landscape plan, and provide the tools, maps, and plant recommendations needed to bring your native garden to life.

Instead of getting a list of multiple species for you to determine, source, space, and plant like in the “NC and SC Piedmont Native Plant Garden Consultation and Plan,” you will receive the formal design of (example) “this area will get 1 XXX tree, 3 XXX shrubs, and 10 XXX perennials” with their installation locations and placements marked onsite and in the landscape design’s map.

While I provide detailed guidance and resources, Mulberry Maps does not purchase plants, manage contractors, perform installation, or conduct ongoing landscape maintenance, unless this is specifically requested.

Instead, the design package empowers you with:
• A clear planting layout
• Site-specific native plant recommendations
• Ecological design strategies
• Trusted nursery and sourcing suggestions

True long-term environmental stewardship and habitat restoration is a continuous, ongoing effort. Because of this, you may enjoy implementing this landscape design gradually over time. This approach also allows you to work within your own schedule and budget.

If you prefer to hire landscapers or garden professionals to assist with installation, you are welcome to share the design plan with them. The documentation and maps provided are structured to make the project easy for contractors or garden teams to understand and follow.

After the 90 minute onsite walkthrough of your property, I use ArcGIS Pro geographic mapping software to create a spatially accurate digital model of your property with satellite imagery, parcel data, elevation layers, and my field observations.

This mapping may include:

• Tree canopy coverage
• Sun and shade zones
• Soil types and infiltration capacity
• Slope and elevation patterns
• Drainage pathways and stormwater flow
• Existing vegetation communities
• Invasive species locations
• Proposed native garden zones

Please note that additional budget may be requested due to factors such as larger property size, regrading needs, etc. This will be coordinated with you after the 90 minute onsite property walkthrough.
